I have an Army - We have an online shop
With the superhero Thor, Marvel was inspired by Nordic mythology, and with the God of Thunder, the entire hunchbacked family from Asgard came into the Marvel comic universe: the mighty Allfather Odin, his wife Frigga, who, unlike in the MCU, is not Thor's biological mother in comics and mythology, Lady Sif, Tyr, Hela (here, too, the filmmakers took some liberties with the family relationships) and also Loki , the God of Mischief.
Even in mythology, the son of the giant Laufey, who lives among the Aesir, is a classic trickster deity: not really evil, but still ready for all kinds of mischief and mischief. He is a buffoon, but also a manipulator. He is funny, but dangerous. Little is known about the origins of the mythological figure; we don't even know what the name means. One theory says that the name is derived from "Loptr", which means something like "the airy one" or, in this case, "airy man". Another hypothesis is that Loki 's name is derived from "lûka" = "to close" due to his role in Ragnarök, since the god of mischief unlocks the gates of Helheim during the fate of the gods and thus decides the end of the world. According to a third theory, the figure of Loki only came into the Nordic pantheon under the influence of Christianity as a counterpart to the Christian devil, which is why the name is a short form of Lucifer, who was already wrongly identified with the devil at that time. Loki 's whole character is just as confusing, because he already exists in all sorts of forms in mythology. Yes, Lady Loki is not a Marvel invention, nor is the story where he gives birth to the seven-legged horse Sleipnir as a mare. The scene with Sif in the Disney+ series in which he cut her hair comes from mythology.
In the comics, as in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki was the first Big Bad that the Avengers had to face. Hardly any other character draws on his comic alter ego so skillfully, which we have to thank not least for the Disney+ series, which presents us with many variants of its title (anti)hero. And antihero is a good keyword. It has now been officially confirmed that Loki was directly controlled by Thanos during the invasion of New York. That means that when he was at his meanest, he was not himself. Because in all the other stories in which he appears, he is a hurt or grieving son, a jealous yet loving brother, a devious crook and yes, even a megalomaniac narcissist, but he is never deliberately out to do truly bad things to others.
The fact that the God of Mischief is one of the most popular and enduring characters in the MCU is probably thanks in no small part to his actor, Tom Hiddleston. He gives us a charismatic and intelligent villain who is just evil enough that we take him seriously as a threat, but at the same time good enough that we sympathize with him. Deep down, we want him to outsmart the heroes again. He is one of the very few characters who has managed to play a role in all four phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.
In the end, he was given his own series and it was quite something. The TVA with Mobius M. Mobius and Ravonna Renslayer, numerous Loki variants including Sylvie, President Loki and Loki gator and then at the end that damn Nathaniel Richards and the splitting of the True Timeline into the long-awaited Multiverse. Was this what we were all hoping for? Yes. But did we still really believe in it after Mephisto didn't appear in WandaVision? We wanted to believe it and this time all the Easter eggs were no waste of time (pun intended). Yes, he doesn't say his name, but he was called "he who remains", "asshole" and "conquerer". The biography he tells us is that of Nathaniel Richards. Everything here screams Kang the Conquerer and he has already been confirmed as the actor for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with Jonathan Majors, who we also see in Loki . The finale of Season 1 truly sent us into Phase 4.
But let's not forget all the Loki variants when it comes to Nathaniel Richards, which were also a clear step towards the multiverse. Sylvie is a combination of Lady Loki and Sylvie Lushton, i.e. Enchantress, who at least in this incarnation in the comics gets her powers from Loki . The comic-accurate Classic Loki is played by Richard E. Grant, who will be very familiar to Whovians and Star Wars fans in particular. Grant played - and this is real insider humor - an incarnation of the Doctor who is not part of the official continuity. And let's be honest: if anyone should constantly have trouble with the TVA, it's the Doctor. The man or woman (next Loki parallel) is constantly messing up with the True Timeline. But Grant also played one of the Doctor's archenemies: the Great Intelligence. In Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker we also see him as General Enric Pryde. We have Kid Loki played by Jack Veal and President Loki also portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. This variant is based on a comic mini-series that poked fun at the 2016 US presidential election campaign and Donald Trump. And not to forget: Loki gator, the best variant of all.
The TVA has not yet visited the yvolve shop in this reality. Presumably this online shop and the merchandise offered in it correspond to the true timeline. Or we already exist in the multiverse and are a variant, one that offers a lot of t-shirts. But maybe there are variants out there with completely different fan merchandise? One might offer more mugs and posters than clothing. Sure, we also have all kinds of merchandise to make geeks happy. Caps, notebooks, bags. And you should hurry up and buy decorations and accessories before the TVA comes by and trims our shop. Then the lights will go out here forever. No more gifts for nerds. And the TVA already has a mascot, so they'll definitely trim Yvo. And then we'll have to work for Kang. Scary thought.
