Star Wars merchandise

1977 was a year that changed the film world forever. George Lucas set new standards with his film "Star Wars: A New Hope" and proved many critics wrong. Hardly anyone believed in the success of the film, but George Lucas did not let himself be dissuaded from bringing his vision to the big screen. On behalf of all nerds, geeks, film freaks and everyone in general, thank you to George Lucas. Star Wars became a sensation and the rest is history that we all know. Fortunately, Lucas had secured the merchandise rights to the franchise before the release, because these were more in demand than fan articles had ever been. George Lucas became a millionaire and now worked with his own studio Lucasfilm on the much sought-after sequels. "A New Hope" was followed in 1980 by what is probably the most popular film in the series to date, "The Empire Strikes Back," and the trilogy came to its legendary end in "Return of the Jedi" in 1983.

People's enthusiasm lasted for years, everyone loved Star Wars and they became the most popular and probably best-known film franchise in the world. The hype was all the bigger when the first trailer for "Episode I - The Phantom Menace" was shown in 1999. The older ones among us will remember the first time they saw the silhouette of Darth Maul and the double-bladed lightsaber: pure excitement. The prequels were supposed to bring us closer to the story of the most famous plot twist in film history, the past of Darth Vader as Luke's father Anakin Skywalker. We all wanted to know how it could happen that a Jedi could become this diabolical, powerful machine. When Anakin was introduced in Episode 1, not much of this darkness was visible, but by Episode 2, "Attack of the Clones," at the latest, a lot became clear to us fans and we could see Anakin's transformation, as well as that of the entire Republic: the final showdown could begin. In 2005, Episode 3 was the film we were most eagerly awaiting. In 140 minutes of pure action and drama, we saw what many fans had been waiting for for 28 years: the creation of Darth Vader and the Empire. And then things went quiet again around Star Wars and it seemed as if George Lucas had told us everything.

Then in 2012 came the bombshell! George Lucas sold his baby to Disney for $3.7 billion. We fans were divided. Some were happy that Disney wanted to continue the franchise, others had a "really bad feeling" about it and it stayed that way for quite a while. First they canceled the series "The Clone Wars", which was very popular with fans, then they declared the entire Advanced Universe, consisting of books, comics and games, to no longer be "canonical" and finally they divided the fan community with Episode 7 "The Force Awakens". Should we love or hate the new Star Wars? It felt like there were only these two extremes and the film "Episode 8 - The Last Jedi" didn't really help matters, as it divided us fans even more into two camps. Episode 9 "The Rise of Skywalker" was the culmination of the tragedy, which was also reflected in the revenue. With "only" around 1 billion dollars, the film only generated half of the revenue that Episode 7 generated in 2015. Many of us fans had had enough. But Disney also seemed to understand...

Now Star Wars is back, more than ever. With series like "The Mandalorian" or the final season 7 of the "Clone Wars" series, Disney is winning back fans and reuniting us in our shared love for characters like Han Solo, Luke, and Rey. Because Star Wars is not just a film or a series that you like or don't like: Star Wars is a feeling that we all know, that goes beyond a film and can give us more joy, inspiration, and comfort than any other franchise.
