Pixar's beginnings
It all started with a small, computer-animated lamp in 1986. Pixar had already been operating as The Graphics Group for two years at that point and had already released a short film that received a lot of critical acclaim, but the initial spark came with the clip "The Little Lamp" written by John Lasseter. From that point on, Pixar would revolutionize the film world and make a completely new genre - the computer-animated film - socially acceptable.
The Magic of Pixar
Pixar's success lies in the fact that they recognized the incredible entertainment value that comes from giving inanimate objects human characteristics. Even today, the Pixar intro consists of the short sequence in which a lamp - which is intrinsically an inanimate object - jumps through the picture like a child and then throws itself onto one of the letters of the sign.

The Breakthrough: Finding Nemo
In preparation for the film Finding Nemo, the animators traveled to Australia and observed fish in their natural habitat in the Great Barrier Reef. When Toy Story was released in 1995, the huge crowds of visitors showed that they were on to something big.
Further successes
In the following years, Pixar was able to repeat its huge success with films such as A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. But then Pixar upped the ante and created a film that would surpass everything that had come before.
