Star Trek merchandise
Back in 1966, visionary Gene Roddenberry gave us Star Trek, a franchise that led to a rush to physics and philosophy courses many years before The Big Bang Theory. The space epic quickly gained a loyal and dedicated fan base and is still considered the pinnacle of good science fiction today.
Historical Significance
Star Trek was a pioneer and trailblazer in many areas. Nyota Uhura was the first woman of color to play a leading role in a mainstream series, and she and Captain Kirk shared the first kiss in film history between a white man and a woman of color. This cosmopolitan and tolerant approach also led to Hollywood star Whoopi Goldberg appearing in the TNG series and in the first movie with Jean Luc Picard without asking for a fee.
Technical Visions
Star Trek also shaped our ideas about the future and the present in technical terms. Back in the 80s, people on the NCC 1701D were communicating with tablets, having fun in virtual reality rooms (i.e. the holodeck) and exploring the existence of wormholes. All of these things were dismissed by critics at the time as figments of their imagination. Today, tablets and VR halls are an integral part of the entertainment industry and wormholes are the subject of many scientific studies.
Science & Star Trek
Hardly any other franchise knows how to combine science and fiction as masterfully as Star Trek. Even respected researchers devote themselves to the physical theories that underlie the stories. For example, the German science entertainer Prof. Harald Lesch deals with the realism of warp drive, photon torpedoes and beaming in some of his shows, and even one of the co-founders of string theory, Prof. Michio Kaku, dedicated one of his books to the technology of Star Trek and explored what might one day be reality and what is more in the realm of fiction.
yvolve Shop Offers
Here in the yvolve shop you will find lots of merchandise for what is probably the nerdiest and most future-oriented franchise in the world. Whether you are a fan of the original series TOS or prefer the 90s series The Next Generation (TNG), Deep Space Nine (DS9) and Voyager (VOY), you will find cool fan articles for all of them here. Or are you a fan of Enterprise (ENT) with Captain Archer and his crew? The series was canceled early, but with our merchandise you can bring its spirit back into your home.
The crews
Every crew in the Star Trek universe had its own, distinctive heroes who shaped and continue to shape entire generations. From the 60s to the early 90s, we experienced the beginnings of the franchise with Captain James T. Kirk, Doctor McCoy, Spock and - beam me up - Scotty. TNG continued with Picard, LaForge, Riker, Data and Worf, who triggered the big hype about Star Trek in the 90s and to whom we have the series Voyager and Deep Space Nine to thank. Speaking of Voyager: For a long time, the series was laughed at by fans, but is now considered a real insider tip among the Star Trek series. Nevertheless, Commander or Captain Benjamin Sisko remains the most complex commander in the series universe.
But ENT also introduced fascinating characters like the Vulcan T'Pol, Captain Jonathan Archer and the tactical officer Lt. Malcolm Reed. With Discovery, JJ Abrams presented us with a completely new direction. More action and a different design ensured that new, young people joined the Star Trek universe and also became fans. But even old hands are finally getting new fodder with the TNG successor Picard and can once again see the Earl Grey-drinking Sir Patrick Stewart in action.
